Happy Caturday to all! Kevin and I decided to go to Shinae (downtown Cheongju) to visit Hello Cat, a cat cafe. Ever since we started talking about Korea and found out that the country has these cafes where cats frolic about and you can play with them, I have been dying to go. It’s a great way to get some cat lovin’ when you’re unable to keep one at home! You pay about 8,000 KRW to enter but that comes with a drink and mini-croissant. Toys are all around so you can play with the kitties and there’s also some cat food you can use to feed them.
These kinds of cafes are actually all over Asia. They featured one in last week’s episode of “The Amazing Race” when they were in Bangkok, Thailand. One recently opened in NYC, and another is on the way for Washington, DC, but these American versions are mainly focused on the adoption of cats, which is really great. All the cats you may play with in the cafes are able to be adopted (through partnerships with the Humane Society, for example), which is not really the case with the cafes over here. At Hello Cat, there were a couple cats available for adoption, but they were not freely roaming about with the others. If adoption were a main focus, I don’t think we would have seen the cats on the promotional ads inside the cafe. I’m not sure how these cats were acquired, but they have a pretty good set-up with lots of love and playtime to go around!
Here are some cute cats for your viewing pleasure!
