Even gloomy days can be beautiful.

Our trip to Japan back in July was such a highlight of my life. I really can’t wait to return. When we were there, we saw plenty of crazy foods and treats. One thing they are known for is their flavored Kit-Kats. Plain ol’ chocolate just doesn’t cut it! One of the popular flavors is raspberry. I didn’t actually buy a big bag of Kit-Kats in Japan because they are expensive and I had already tried it when one of the students brought it back as a gift. However, when we were in Hawaii (i.e. Little Japan), we went to a Japanese grocery store and I found this beautiful pink bag of raspberry Kit-Kat delight for a much more reasonable price. So I bought it. It’s taken me awhile to go through the bag and I can’t bring myself to eat the last one, but here it is…the last one!

Thank you, Veterans, for your service! And a special shout-out to my cousin who is currently deployed in Afghanistan. We appreciate all you do!
Unfortunately, I don’t have any Veteran’s Day related photos for today. Just…uh…geese.

Here’s a throwback (#tbt) to sometime in the 90’s. My dad, Grandma and I saw “The King and I” on Broadway starring Lou Diamond Phillips. Since his new movie, “The 33”, comes out Nov. 13, I thought it was fitting. I can’t wait to see it. I got to see the actual Phoenix that saved all the men at the National Museum of Natural History a few years back. It was pretty incredible. “Etc! Etc! Etc!”

This Friday the 13th was pretty good to me on a personal level. I bought my first car! It’s a 2012 Hyundai Elantra. I think I should name it Lucky, hah. But, seriously – LG phone, Hyundai car. I think Korea had an impact on me!
As aforementioned, this was my first car purchase, and I had a very positive experience at CarMax. The website is kind of like online dating for cars. You get to go shopping to find the one that works the best for you. I found one that matched all of my requirements in terms of year, edition, package, price, and color (flexible, but no periwinkle blue, please). To top it off, it only had 24,000 miles on it! It was located outside DC, and was transferred to Richmond for free, where I was able to test drive, inspect, and make sure it is indeed the car for me. I’m in love.

After giving my car some glamour shots, I took my camera around the neighborhood with me. I am overjoyed because I have finally figured out how to capture magnificent sun flare! I knew what I was supposed to do but I couldn’t properly execute it until now, by accident of course. Luckily, it wasn’t a 1-time accident. I was able to figure out my problem with camera angle.

A new nail salon opened up and they were offering 20% off for the grand opening. I was in need of a manicure so decided to check it out. They definitely still need to work out their operating mojo, but I think they will fare well. They are certainly going for an elegant, luxurious, upscale environment and feel. When they bring out the tray with the new supplies, on it they have some (fake) flowers, a (real) rose petal in the water for your fingers to soak, and another (real) rose petal which holds the lotion. Super cute!
